Tŝilhqot’in National Government
Website
The Tŝilhqot’in National Government (TNG) sought to redefine their digital presence, creating a platform that deeply resonated with its key audiences, including the Tŝilhqot’in people, leadership and external stakeholders. Their goal was to deliver a cohesive, accessible brand experience that would foster pride and connection within the community, strengthen their advocacy for self-determination, and elevate their presence across British Columbia and beyond.
TNG envisioned a website that could bridge tradition and progress—honouring Tŝilhqot’in identity and culture while addressing the practical needs of a growing organization and its diverse stakeholders. They approached Roodenburg Design Consultants (RDC) to deliver a unified digital platform that integrated technical functionality, cultural storytelling, and strategic design.
Our Approach
Having recently developed a refreshed brand identity for the Tŝilhqot’in Nation, RDC had a strong foundation to build upon. However, creating a website required a deeper understanding of its unique attributes. To achieve this, RDC launched a research-driven process that ensures the final product is visually compelling, technically robust, and culturally resonant.
In collaboration with IdeaHack, RDC conducted a technical audit, stakeholder workshops, and community research to gain a 360-degree view of TNG’s needs.
Technical Audit
In-depth evaluations of the existing website identified pain points and opportunities for optimization, from functionality to mobile usability.
Stakeholder & Community Workshops
Meetings on TNG territory engaged stakeholders and community members in articulating their vision through words, imagery, and storytelling, ensuring the website redesign was guided by the Nation’s voice.
Strategic Recommendations
Guided by insights from research and workshops, RDC implemented a strategic approach to improve the Tŝilhqot’in National Government’s website:
Restructured Site Architecture: Prioritized services and visitor needs, creating intuitive navigation and making content easier to find.
Enhanced Storytelling: Brought Tŝilhqot’in culture, language, and values to life with compelling “About” pages that foster deeper connections.
Accessible Design: Created clean, user-friendly layouts optimized for both desktop and mobile devices to ensure inclusivity.
Streamlined Content: Simplified and clarified content for better readability, catering to both quick skimmers and those seeking detailed information.
This targeted strategy ensured that the final website was not only functional and visually engaging but also led by TNG’s mission and cultural essence.
Outcome
The redesigned Tŝilhqot’in National Government website is a powerful reflection of the Nation’s identity, blending tradition and innovation to honour its culture and inspire a collective vision for the future. This community-led rebrand celebrates Tŝilhqot’in heritage through stunning visuals, compelling storytelling, and seamless integration of traditions, language, and values—fostering pride, resilience, and connection.
Designed with accessibility and engagement at its core, the site invites users into an intuitive, mobile-friendly experience. A vibrant homepage boldly communicates TNG’s mission, while streamlined layouts and reimagined governance and contact pages meet both organizational and community needs. By bridging key areas like health, education, and business development, the site amplifies TNG’s dedication to progress and sustainability.
More than just a website, this digital platform serves as a beacon of Tŝilhqot’in identity and self-determination, uniting the past and future. Designed to appeal to a diverse demographic, including youth, it builds confidence, supports aspirations, and extends the reach of Tŝilhqot’in culture, representing Tŝilhqot’in pride and tenacity on a broader stage.
